For those of you that live in the Phoenix area there is quite the hidden gem over at Tom’s Thumb Fresh Market. I was introduced to them a couple months ago because they wanted to host a gluten-free foodie tour. Yes it’s a gas station and a car wash but what you don’t see is what happens when you walk in the front door. They have a full kitchen, dining area, desert bar, coffee bar and drink station as well. Not to mention they have a market that serves all sorts of food and drinks. I’ve actually found myself heading over there a few times because the wifi is extremely fast and it is an enjoyable place to work with a courteous and attentive staff.
The market has a dedicated gluten-free section where you can by various snacks and a frozen section where you can buy breads, pizza and other goodies. I will warn you though that the staff will not certify anything they make in the kitchen as being gluten-free because they don’t have the space yet to prevent cross-contamination. I believe it could be done in the future but as of now they’re increasing the amount of products that are gluten-free and this is the perfect place to pick up items and enjoy the nice atmosphere.
As for the tour, we highlighted several different gluten-free products including popchips, Kind Bars, Constantino’s Kitchen Sauces, New Planet Beer, Crispin Hard Cider, various wines and various other snacks. Reps were on hand for each of the vendors to discuss product safety and their commitment to offering a great tasting gluten-free product. We were also informed about Tom’s Thumb Fresh Market various wines by Chuck Hesson the market manager who is also a certified Sommelier. He’s stocked the market with a diverse selection of quality and affordable wines.
Special thanks to Can I Eat Here and popchips for sponsoring the gluten-free foodie tour at Tom’s Thumb. Can I Eat Here is an incredible online resource that can connect you with restaurants that cater to food allergies as well as recipes. Popchips are never baked, never fried and are popped deliciousness with ten different flavored potato chips. They are also releasing their new tortilla flavored chips which are available in four different flavors.
Crispin Hard Cider was in attendance as well showcasing a couple different flavored ciders and were a big hit with T-Shirt, glass wear and other swag giveaways. It should be highlighted that Crispin doesn’t add an artificial sweeteners making their ciders rich in flavor and a tasty refreshing treat.
Kind Bars make for a great snack on the run with their bars and granola which can be used in yogurt, oatmeal and other snack options. Kind Snacks are gluten and wheat free with numerous different flavored bars that are a perfect treat throughout the day.
Christopher Costantino – owner of Costantino’s Kitchen Pasta Sauce was also on hand sampling his sauce which has been in his family for five generations. He emphasized that his products are 100% gluten-free and has no need to add gluten to his sauces making them safe for numerous uses.
